    About Javed Akhtar

Javed Akhtar is an acclaimed Indian poet, lyricist, and screenwriter who revolutionized Hindi cinema through his groundbreaking storytelling and emotive songwriting. Born in Gwalior in 1945 into a family of distinguished Urdu writers, he moved to Mumbai in the 1960s to pursue a career in films. Akhtar first achieved legendary status as one half of the iconic screenwriting duo Salim-Javed, co-creating defining cinematic masterpieces such as *Zanjeer*, *Deewaar*, and *Sholay*, which introduced the culturally potent "Angry Young Man" persona. Transitioning seamlessly into songwriting in the 1980s, he penned immortal verses for landmark films including *Silsila*, *1942: A Love Story*, and *Dil Chahta Hai*. His profound poetic mastery has earned him five National Film Awards for Best Lyrics and civilian honors including the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. Beyond cinema, he champions secular values and social justice as a public intellectual and former nominated Member of Parliament. Today, his evocative poetry and literary brilliance remain deeply woven into the linguistic and emotional fabric of modern South Asian culture.
