How this Panchang is worked out

The five limbs are read at local sunrise, the classical convention: the Tithi from the Moon–Sun distance, the Nakshatra from the Moon, the Yoga from Sun + Moon, all sidereal (). The Tithi and Nakshatra change at the same instant everywhere, but which one is “at sunrise” — and every window on this page — depends on the place.

Sunrise and sunset come from the real position of the Sun for the place’s latitude and longitude. Rahu Kaal, Gulika and Yamaganda are fixed eighths of daylight; Abhijit, Dur Muhurtam and Brahma Muhurta are fifteenths of the day or night; Amrit Kalam and Varjyam are fixed slices of the day’s Nakshatra. Times are local clock times rounded to the nearest minute. In our tests (October 2026, 5 cities) they agreed with Drik Panchang to within a minute, and Tithi and Nakshatra end times to within 2 minutes.
