    About Virginia Woolf

Adeline Virginia Woolf, born Stephen on January 25, 1882, in London, was an English writer regarded as one of the most important modernist authors of the twentieth century. Raised in an intellectual household, she began writing professionally in 1900. She became a central figure in the Bloomsbury Group, an influential circle of English writers, intellectuals, and artists. In 1912, she married Leonard Woolf, and together they founded the Hogarth Press in 1917, publishing her works alongside those of other prominent writers. Woolf pioneered the stream of consciousness narrative technique, exploring internal monologue and psychological time in celebrated novels such as Mrs Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, and Orlando. Her non-fiction essay A Room of One's Own remains a foundational text in feminist literary criticism, examining the social and financial obstacles faced by female writers. Throughout her life, Woolf suffered from severe mental illness. She died by suicide on March 28, 1941, near her home in Sussex.
