Osho Rajneesh

About Osho Rajneesh

Chandra Mohan Jain, universally recognized as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and later Osho, was an influential Indian philosopher and mystic who founded the international Rajneesh movement. Born in Madhya Pradesh in 1931, he excelled academically and earned a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Saugar. He taught philosophy as a university professor in Jabalpur throughout the 1960s before resigning to pursue full-time spiritual work. In 1974, Rajneesh established his famous ashram in Pune, drawing thousands of international disciples through lectures combining world religions with modern psychotherapy. He pioneered Dynamic Meditation, an active cathartic technique that remains a cornerstone of his spiritual practice. During the early 1980s, he relocated to Oregon to establish the intentional community of Rajneeshpuram, which became a focal point of intense legal and political controversy. His extensive transcribed discourses generated more than six hundred published books translated into dozens of languages. His boundary-pushing philosophy continues to shape modern perspectives on individual consciousness, personal freedom, and spiritual synthesis.
