About Nayanthara

Diana Mariam Kurian, known professionally as Nayanthara, is widely celebrated as the "Lady Superstar" of South Indian cinema for her unprecedented box-office draw as a female lead. Born in Bengaluru to a Syrian Christian family, she grew up in various parts of India due to her father’s Indian Air Force career. She made her acting debut in the 2003 Malayalam hit Manassinakkare before capturing widespread attention with the blockbuster Tamil films Chandramukhi and Ghajini in 2005. Demonstrating exceptional dramatic range, she earned critical acclaim and the Nandi Award for portraying Sita in the mythological drama Sri Rama Rajyam in 2011. Nayanthara subsequently established a new commercial benchmark by headlining successful solo-led thrillers such as Maya and Aramm, before expanding her pan-Indian prominence with the record-breaking Hindi action film Jawan in 2023. By commanding equal footing with male superstars in a historically male-dominated industry, she fundamentally transformed the commercial viability of female-centric narratives across Indian entertainment. Her trailblazing career cements her enduring cultural impact as one of contemporary Indian cinema's most powerful icons.
