    About Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, born c. 1881 in Salonica, was a Turkish field marshal, revolutionary statesman, and the founding father of the Republic of Turkey. He first rose to prominence as an Ottoman military commander during World War I, playing a critical role in the Ottoman victory at the Gallipoli Campaign. Following the empire's defeat and subsequent partition, Atatürk led the Turkish National Movement in the Turkish War of Independence from 1919 to 1923, successfully repelling Allied forces and establishing a sovereign state. Upon the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey in October 1923, he became its first president, serving until his death on November 10, 1938. As president, he instituted comprehensive political, legal, economic, and cultural reforms designed to transform the former Ottoman state into a modern, secular republic. His reforms included replacing the Ottoman Turkish script with a Latin-based alphabet, granting women equal political rights, and introducing secular legal codes.
