Anna Yuryevna Netrebko is a Russian and Austrian operatic soprano born on September 18, 1971, in Krasnodar, Soviet Union. She studied vocal performance at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and was discovered by conductor Valery Gergiev at the Mariinsky Theatre. Netrebko achieved international fame in 2002 after performing as Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Salzburg Festival. Renowned for her vocal versatility and stage presence, she became a leading performer at major opera houses worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, and the Vienna State Opera. Her repertoire spans bel canto, lyric, and dramatic soprano roles in works by Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky. She acquired Austrian citizenship in 2006. In 2022, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Netrebko faced scrutiny regarding her political ties, leading to canceled engagements at some Western venues. She later condemned the war and resumed performing internationally.
