    Neither story is proof of anything. Anecdotes aren't data. But they do frame a question that millions of people quietly wonder about: Is walking enough? Or do you need to run to get the longevity benefits of exercise?

    The research, it turns out, has some clear answers — and some surprising nuances.

    The Taiwan Study: 15 Minutes Changes Everything

    This study matters because it demolished the "all or nothing" myth — the idea that exercise only "counts" if you're drenched in sweat for 45 minutes. For the sedentary majority of the population, the biggest health jump comes from going from nothing to something.     The best exercise for living longer is the one you'll actually do consistently for the next thirty years.

    If that's walking — beautiful. The evidence fully supports it. If that's running — also beautiful, but watch your volume and listen to your joints. If it's cycling, swimming, dancing, or chasing your kids around a park — that works too.

    The research is unambiguous on one point: the single worst exercise choice for longevity is the one you quit doing. My father never quit. That's the real lesson.
