Why some months have no dates

    • 16 Dec 2026 – 14 Jan 2027: Kharmas — Sun in Dhanu (Sagittarius) ()

    • 14 Jul 2027 – 10 Nov 2027: Chaturmas — Devshayani Ekadashi to Devutthana (Dev Uthani) Ekadashi ()
    • 17 Jul 2027 – 11 Sept 2027: Shukra (Venus) Asta, with 3 days before and after ()

    • 16 Dec 2027 – 15 Jan 2028: Kharmas — Sun in Dhanu (Sagittarius) ()

Dates are for India (IST). A period that touches part of a day rules that whole sunrise-to-sunrise day out.

    How these dates are chosen

This is the Panchang Shuddhi step: the day’s , , , and weekday must all be suitable at the same time. The time window is the stretch of the day when all of them qualify.

    • Nakshatra: one of the 11 wedding stars — Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati — leaving out the quarters (the first quarter of Magha and Mula, the last quarter of Revati).
    • Yoga and Karana: not during the harsh Yogas (Vishkambha, Atiganda, Shula, Ganda, Vyaghata, Vajra, Vyatipata, Parigha, Vaidhriti), not in and not in the four fixed Karanas.
    • Season: no weddings in (Sun in Dhanu or Meena), while the Sun is in Kanya, in , in an , or while Jupiter or Venus is (with three days either side). A day that is only partly inside such a period is left out.

These are the rules Drik Panchang applies in its Panchang-only marriage list; our tests compare the 2026 New Delhi dates with it. The final wedding time (the Lagna) is set by your priest, and the couple’s charts are matched separately — see Kundali Matching.

Everything is computed from the real sidereal () positions of the Sun and Moon — the same engine as our daily Panchang — for each place’s own sunrise-to-sunrise day. Windows shorter than 5 minutes are dropped. How we calculate this →

    Frequently Asked Questions

Each window is a stretch of time when the Moon is in one of the 11 classical wedding Nakshatras (Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati), outside the Gandanta quarters, outside Bhadra and the harsh Yogas — and the day is not in Kharmas, Chaturmas, an Adhik month, the Sun’s month in Kanya, or a Guru/Shukra Asta. This is the Panchang Shuddhi step; your priest then fixes the exact Lagna (wedding moment) inside the window.

Weddings pause during Chaturmas — in 2027 from Devshayani Ekadashi (14 July 2027) to Devutthana (Dev Uthani) Ekadashi (10 November 2027) — and during Kharmas, when the Sun is in Dhanu (about mid-December to mid-January) or Meena (about mid-March to mid-April). They also pause while Venus or Jupiter is combust (Asta) and in an Adhik (leap) month. The exact dates are listed above.

We follow the same Panchang-only rules as Drik Panchang’s marriage list. In our automated test against Drik’s published 2026 list for New Delhi (January to mid-July, the part we could read), 47 of its 48 dates appear here, and the time windows on those dates agree to within 5 minutes. Drik also offers a separate list that checks the Lagna; a priest’s final choice may be narrower.

The Tithi and Nakshatra change at the same moment everywhere, but a Hindu day runs from local sunrise to the next sunrise, and the clock time depends on the time zone. So a window can start or end at a different local time, and occasionally fall on a different date, in another city. The list above is for New Delhi; choose your city to recompute it in your browser.

It is the starting point. Families usually also match the couple’s Kundalis and have the priest choose the Lagna for the ceremony. A good muhurat is classical guidance for a calm, well-timed start — not a guarantee of anything.
